This week the biggest steel-tower radio guy companies' HD Radio Alliance is rolling out a variety of subchannel formats in 28 markets. But I fear they haven't gotten creative enough to give listeners compelling reasons to buy one of the amazing new $300-plus HD table radio sets. So, in the interest of loosening the industry up a little, I humbly offer a few push-the-envelope format suggestions.
> Radio Idol -- Non-stop 24-7 deejay audition tapes salvaged from Alliance program directors' wastebaskets.
> Time Warp -- Selected airchecks of 50s and 60s jocks from personal collections.
> No Delay Talk -- Seven-second clips from talk stations' bad language delay systems, introduced by former Tom Leykis call screeners.
> Dirty Tricks Radio -- The Randy Michaels office tapes. (Sorry, civilians; inside Radio Guys joke.)
No charge. There's more where these came from. Got any? Click on comments.
